Roney George

Roney George is a visual artist with a career spanning 40 years and a degree from the School of Fine Arts at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA). Born in Itapetinga, in the southwest of Bahia, he lives and works in Salvador. His practice moves between painting, drawing, illustration and muralism, as well as working in the areas of scenography, costume and fashion design.

Her poetics bear the marks of the sertão, incorporating the symbolism of leather-clad caboclos and emblematic figures from sertaneja and Afro-indigenous culture. The move to Salvador expanded his visual and conceptual repertoire, deepening his investigation into the intersections between the sertão and the city, articulated by the historical and cultural dynamics of the Recôncavo of Bahia.

Throughout his career, the artist has developed projects in different regions of Brazil and in countries such as Chile, the United States, South Africa, Germany, France, Holland, Italy and Portugal. His works are part of the collections of important institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art of Bahia MAM BA and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Bahia MAC BA.
