Mahku: Mirações | MASP

March 24 – June 4, 2023

The exhibition MAHKU: Mirações marks the tenth anniversary of the official founding of the group. The exhibition also celebrates the long-standing relationship between the collective and MASP, evidenced by the large number of works commissioned from the artists since 2017 for various exhibitions and projects at the Museum. This is the largest exhibition ever held with the collective, gathering 108 works – 58 of which belong to MASP – including paintings, drawings, and sculptures. It also includes three new paintings created specifically for the exhibition, as well as a painting done on the iconic stairs of the Museum.

In more than a decade of production, MAHKU continues to build bridges between Indigenous and non-Indigenous worlds, between the visible and the invisible. By engaging with the exhibition world, the collective constructs sustainable paths to strengthen their modes of existence, making alligators, boas, and “the vine drink” circulate, thus spreading their myths, stories, and art.
