Julia Angulo São Paulo, São Paulo, Brasil, b. 1993
Biography
Exhibitions
Julia Angulo holds a degree in Industrial Design with a focus on Graphic Design from FAAP - Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado and a postgraduate degree in Visual Arts from the Chelsea School of Arts in London.
The uncertain fluidity of human memory emerges in the work of this Brazilian-Polish artist through layers of painting, stitching, and collage developed on fabric—a medium imbued with personal, familial, and aesthetic significance for her.
Amid chaotic, accumulated thoughts, there is an effort to express memories through the interplay of recollection and forgetting, documenting the paths taken by the mind. The "carpets," as the artist calls them, result from small, random triggers stemming from the unconscious, shaped by her relationship with the world. Drawing on psychoanalysis as a tool to understand the unconscious, Julia incorporates her personal experience with dyslexia, which informs her investigative approach to her art.
