Nara Guichon Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil, b. 1955
Nara Guichon (Santa Maria, Brazil, 1955) is a textile artist, designer, and environmentalist.
Since 1983, she has lived and worked in Florianópolis, the capital of the state of Santa Catarina, in southern Brazil. Her work is grounded in three main pillars: [1] Manual fiber arts such as knitting, crochet, embroidery, and weaving, valuing traditional artisanal knowledge; [2] Recycling and sustainability, promoting ethical and conscious consumption; [3] Respect for the environment, actively participating in efforts to restore the Atlantic Forest in Brazil and creating artistic works inspired by this biome.
With a long-standing and distinguished career as a weaver, Nara Guichon developed a significant body of work in sustainable design and fashion between 1975 and 2015, earning numerous national and international awards. Since 2017, she has dedicated herself exclusively and quietly to artistic production.
